2018 has come to an end and what a year it was. It’s hard to pinpoint one specific genre in erotica that caught the internet’s attention because it was probably one of the busiest years for pop culture phenomena crossing over into the realm of hardcore pornography.
From Bowsette to Big Foot and every other major social media trend, everything eventually trickles its way into Pornhub. We still haven’t figured out what causes it, but it seems like millions of people around the world love to filter current events through the comforting embrace of internet porn searches. Even seemingly unsexy topics like American politics seem to be better enjoyed when expressed through fuck flicks.
Thankfully we have Pornhub Insights to act as the curators for the museum of humanity’s interesting porn searching habits.
Using every tool at their disposal to decipher the anonymously gathered analytics, our favorite sexy statisticians took a deep dive into what got our collective genital juices flowing during 2018. They then compiled that information into an extremely informative report for us in the form of Pornhub’s 6th annual Year in Review.
The top 10 searches of 2018 paint a pretty clear picture of what the internet is about. Aside from general searches we would commonly associate with the porn industry, video games made a strong showing. Fortnite managed to capture the second most search term which still surprises me since it’s a cell shaded video game and about as sexy as a daytime TV commercial for allergy medication.
Bowsette on the other hand is completely understandable. If there’s one thing the internet’s art community is good at it’s making me want to have sex with beloved elements of my childhood by drawing huge boobs on everything.
When it comes to the most searched porn stars of 2018, apparently nothing can boost a career quite like a political scandal. Stormy Daniels managed to top the list, probably because the world was curious if she was sexy enough to warrant the president of the United States paying her millions of dollars to cover an affair.
Another interesting observation was that for the first time in recent memory, a male porn star managed to climb his way into the top 20 most search performers. Maybe 2018 was a big year for female and gay visitors, or maybe heterosexual men just like watching a 5’2 dude with no body hair and a giant dick.
Speaking of female visitors, looking at the most viewed categories for both genders reveals some interesting difference in their viewing habits.
Most women who come to Pornhub are more interested in lesbian porn and other genres designed to appeal to them specifically while men are here for Japanese porn and older women. I can’t speak for the accuracy of the female statistics, but the findings on the male side of things line up surprisingly well with my usual favorites.
These graphs are just a fraction of the data that was put together for the 2018 Year in Review, so for a more in depth look at the last year unfolded in terms of internet pornography searches, head over to Pornhub Insights to read the full article.
