Oh those Brits always ready for a laugh. This cheeky Maltesers ad starring disabled actress Storme Toolis has been making the internet rounds and with good reason. The ad is hilarious and kind of dirty. It’s a pretty simple concept: three friends are sitting around chowing down on some Maltesers discussing life, the universe and everything, you know, usual girl talk, when Storme brings up her new boyfriend.

Storme has cerebral palsy, which can causes spasms. That’s the joke, that’s the joke right there, you see, because Storme is telling her friends how she was hanging out with the new boyfriend and things were going great, they were getting cozy and when Storme put her hand on his, uh, thigh, she hand a spasm. New boyfriend “misunderstood” the gesture and Maltesers went flying everywhere. Maltesers are sperm. Maltesers are sperm in this story, not in life… that would be odd.
A simple concept, but genius.
It’s fucking amazing, because disabled people are often pushed to the sidelines on TV and in movies. Oh, I mean, there are disabled roles out there, but they’re usually played by non-disabled actors and the disability itself usually plays a huge part in the plot. You hardly ever see a disabled person playing a role where their disability doesn’t take center stage.
Add to that the fact that disabled people are never shown as sexual beings and this ad is basically revolutionary. Pretty freakin’ awesome – THE SOCIAL JUSTICE REVOLUTION IS HERE – if only Maltesers didn’t taste like absolute garbage.
