My best friend is a woman and intergender friendships can result in a unique set of interactions and experiences. In addition to becoming knowledgeable in current nail art techniques and makeup brands, I’ve also had a front row seat to some of best failed pickup lines.
Granted I’m pretty bad at picking up women myself but at least I’m aware of it. Approaching women with witty one liners probably won’t work like it does in music videos unless you’re a chiseled demigod, which I am not. Even with my realistic expectations I’ve still misread a few signals but at least I’m always polite about it.
Watching guys crash and burn with my bezzie mate is always a good time, plus I usually get most of the free drinks she’s offered. I have seen a few successes, but it’s usually with something less elaborate than this recent story from New Zealand.
A man from Rotorua recently made headlines after successfully convincing a woman to have sex with him by telling her he had been poisoned and the only way for him to survive was to bump nasties. Whoa.
To achieve what I thought could only be done in a Jason Stratham movie the man used a combination of theatrics and an aggressive email campaign.
He showed up at the woman’s door red faced and hunched over clutching his ribs. He told her he had been beaten and forced to swallow a poison that could only be expelled from his system through having sex. Though the gullible woman had reservations, she received a series of emails that seemed to corroborate the man’s story. At this point her concern for his safety trumped her better judgement and agreed to have sex with him.
After their initial lifesaving sexual encounter, the man continued to use email messages to further his ruse until the woman got suspicious and confronted him. Unfortunately, this was when things went awry and he became be both physically and emotionally abusive. Who would have thought a guy pretending to be poisoned to find sexual partners wouldn’t be on the up and up?
When the man started to blackmail the woman and threaten her family she finally called the police who came and arrested him. The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to sexual connection induced by threat and assault. Good!
Hopefully the victim will be able to get on with her life and has been provided with some kind of flowchart she can use to determine if someone is trying to trick her into having sex again.
