When American Beauty came out in 1999 I was a teenager and for some reason I thought that Kevin Spacey fantasizing about a naked Mena Suvari lying in a bed of rose petals was super hot. When I look back on it now, it’s a little creepy. Not the Mena Suvari part. The Kevin Spacey part. The Mena Suvari covered in roses part will always be hot.
Just as Phoebe Cates getting out of a pool, in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, dripping wet and wearing a red bikini will always be hot. Sigh. Speaking of Phoebe Cates, why didn’t she do more movies?! She had a really promising career in the early ’90s starring in such classics as Gremlins and, my personal favorite, Drop Dead Fred. Then she married Kevin Kline, had his children and disappeared from public view.
I wonder why she quit acting? I bet Kevin Kline keeps her chained up in his basement. Poor thing.
As for the rest of the beauties portrayed through Sara Jean Underwood‘s dress-up party, they’re still around somewhere, acting, trying to act. Some of them are even the head of weird organic companies that sell defective sunscreen to children. Won’t someone please think of the children?
