Tarrant notes the range and says it’s hard to get at firm figures because it’s been understudied by economists who routinely study other industries.
She also says a lot of the companies that produce and distribute online pornography are private enterprises and under no obligation to disclose their finances.
“They may be parent companies that have all kinds of products under their corporate umbrella,” she adds. “They may not specify how much of their revenue is from adult content”.
Assessing web traffic is easier than tracking revenue. PornHub, the most highly-trafficked aggregator site for pornographic clips and links, reported 78 billion page views in 2014. The site says that in total, globally, people spend 12 million hours per day watching videos on its site.

A substitute teacher was arrested yesterday for indecent exposure after she performed a cartwheel in a high school choir class “with no under garments on,” police allege.
According to cops, Lacey Sponsler, 34, exposed herself to students last Friday at Pawhuska High School in Pawhuska, a city about 50 miles north of Tulsa.
Sponsler, seen at right, was wearing a long dress, but no underwear, “which caused her to expose herself to the students in this class,” cops allege. “This act was captured by a student on their cell phone,” said Police Chief Scott Laird.
As detailed in a probable cause affidavit, as Sponsler (seen above) performed the cartwheel in the “Junior High Choir room,” her dress was “flipped up,” exposing her buttocks. An officer who reviewed the video of the incident added, “I further noticed that the Defendant was not wearing any type of underwear.”

An anonymous netizen with a sharp sense of humor uploaded Donald Trump’s inauguration video to popular internet porn site Pornhub under the title “Rich White Guy Fucks the Entire Country All at Once.”
The move was inspired by a doctored image going around showing the inauguration video on Pornhub with 169,062 views. The screenshot was fake, but after it went viral, it inspired someone to put the video up for real. Life imitates art, I guess.
