Most of what I know about Southeast Asia comes from 90s action movies and typing “LBFM” into Pornhub. Despite my naïve understanding of the world I am sure countries like Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam have beautiful traditions and cultural heritage that Southern California has appropriated into some kind of food truck.
That being said, the region is also well known for sex tourism, all manner of prostitution, and discount genital related surgery.
Thailand for whatever reason has become a destination for people seeking sex changes and in recent years a place where wealthy people can find cheap surrogate mothers. However after the practice of allowing foreigners to pay Thai women to carry their children was banned things started to get more complicated.
Earlier this month a man was caught trying to smuggle semen from Thailand across the Mekong River into Laos. Nothing about this case is sexual but the phrase “Laotian semen smuggling” really gets me going.
The illegal loads were collected at a clinic from wealthy Chinese and Vietnamese clients. According to police they were smuggled using a container that concealed the samples and were kept cool using liquid nitrogen. This sounds exactly like how Nedry tried to smuggle dinosaur DNA out of Jurassic Park. Cool!
Before he was intercepted, the semen smuggler was on his way to a clinic where the illicit seed would be used to fertilize eggs for surrogate pregnancies. Due to the strength of foreign currency and abundance of healthy young women, Southeast Asia has always had a number of surrogacy centers since medical science made the procedure possible.
Many countries including Thailand and Cambodia have made it illegal for foreigners to pay local women to carry their babies, but Laos remains one of the few where it is legal. Unfortunately the collecting and transporting of other people’s semen across borders has become a sensitive issue and the cum courier in question was arrested for violating Thai law.
