Kehlani Loves Sex Workers

A few years back, my old boss/now friend went to a Demi Lovato concert. Kehlani opened for her. That experience completely changed her life.

For the next three months, all she could talk about was how sexy Kehlani and Demi were when they were rolling around on a bed in the middle of the stadium. Their improvised sex scene was a whole mood for her and she ate up every minute of it. If you want to watch a clip of Demi riding on top of Kehlani’s torso, you can click here…but today, I want to talk about Kehlani’s new video for the song Can I.

The whole video features a metric fuck ton of cam girls doing their thing and making their money. Kehlani is using her platform to raise awareness of the REAL ACTUAL WORK that sex workers do while they’re on the clock. I’m honestly impressed with what she put together.

You need to for real read and ingest that statement at the end of the clip…so here it is word for word:

Sex work is a political term that covers and embraces: street-level prostitution, erotic dancing, camera work, adult film, agency escorting, sensual massages, dominatrix work and all other occupations through which one sells their sexual(-ized) services to clients. It is a legitimate form of labor that must be decriminalized so as to function as a safe form of work for all sex workers. It is often the lives and livelihoods of those who do street-level work that is impacted by criminalizing policies and cultural stigmatization. Overwhelmingly, those folks are clack trans women, clack cisgender women, and other clack queer and trans people — including youth. Black people — as well as Indigenous people and other people of color — deserve to be able to perform sex work without any limitations or stigmas attached, and this means that everyone must commit to learning from sex workers about sex work and sex workers’ needs.

YAAAASSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

I’m here for this. Decriminalize sex work and let’s move on. There’s nothing wrong with loving sex and feeling good. As long as people are playing safely and the work is between two consenting adults, it’s all fun and games.

When celebrities use their platforms to bring awareness to hot button issues attention almost immediately heads their way. Kehlani is doing a huge favor to the sex worker community, especially the Black Trans sex worker community, by releasing this video. I didn’t buy her album before this clip was released, but I definitely did buy it about 5 minutes ago.
