When Rafe Biggs became paralyzed from the chest down after falling off a roof nine years ago, he worried he would never have another orgasm.
However, the human brain is a complicated machine and few things are more motivating than sexual desires. Through a phenomemon known as “transfer orgasm,” Biggs began to feel sexual pleasure when someone sucked or messaged his thumb.
Never mind how easy it would be to masturbate if your thumb magically became a surrogate penis, the point of this story is that someone without any feeling or control of their genitals was able to achieve an orgasm. That’s pretty god damn amazing.
Biggs now works at “Sexability,” a group that helps quadriplegics and other disabled people lead healthy sex life. According to their website:
“Sexability is an organization committed to empowering people with disabilities to explore sexuality and creating intimate loving relationships. Since our beginning in 2006, we have been working with individuals, groups and organizations to transform sexuality and disability.”
Biggs said he’s sharing his story because he wants to help fight the myth that people with a disability are uninterested in, and unable to perform sexual activities.
He hopes that doing so well help people confined to wheel chairs or who have other disabilities create and maintain intimate relationships. So, if an attractive man or woman in a wheel chair buys you a drink and gives you a thumbs-up while winking seductively, you better be prepared for what happens next.
