A cuddle party is basically what it sounds like. A bunch of people gather in a room (in this case, a yoga studio) and spend several hours talking and cuddling. But there’s another aspect that the name doesn’t reveal: It’s preceded by a thorough talk on boundaries and consent.
Host Reid Mihalko, a sex educator, told me he started the parties in New York for massage therapists who wanted to receive massages themselves. His non-masseuse friends wanted to come, but were too intimidated, so he joked that they should just have a “cuddle party” instead. The rest is history. The cuddle party grew into a phenomenon, spreading to the West Coast as Mihalko relocated to the Bay Area and now existing in 17 countries. On this particular occasion, Mihalko had returned to New York to run a workshop/party along with co-facilitator Monique Darling.
I wish there were cuddle parties around where I live.
P.S. Read the original article, the author makes some really good points about consent.

The Lost History of the ‘Booty Call’ (Esquire)
In 1985, Anthony “Creo-D” Darlington was a year away from graduating high school in Belle Glade, Florida. In addition to their academic responsibilities, he and his friends spent a lot of time pursuing girls. Oftentimes, they used payphones to, as Darlington put it in a recent conversation, “call that booty.” By then, he explained, the phrase had been jumbled and clipped: “It just turned into booty call.”
Is that it or does the origin of the expression “Booty Call” go deeper? Spoiler alert: it goes deeper, booty deep.

I Do Sex Work So I Can Look At Myself In The Mirror (The Huffington Post)
I entered the sex industry because I lacked access to health care.
In the industry, it’s common for women to use proceeds from their work to fund cosmetic procedures. It’s an investment — increase the market value of sexual labor by modifying one’s body in accordance with popular sexual aesthetics. Breast augmentation, facial surgeries, and gluteoplasty are all procedures commonly sought out by escorts, strippers, and porn stars.
Jesus, that sucks. The US needs better health care STAT or ya’ll should all move to Canada. Well, everyone except the Trump supporters.
