In the alleged interest of stopping sexual exploitation, government officials have seized yet another website that allowed sex workers to work more safely and independently. This move to make life worse for many marginalized women was funded with federal money earmarked for fighting human trafficking and carried out by a task force involving the FBI, the IRS, the San Diego Police Department, several nearby police departments, the U.S. Marshals Service, the California Highway Patrol, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Department of Homeland Security. Because never mind terror and human smuggling and mass shootings, there are adults having sex in unapproved ways!
Sex workers getting the shaft again.

Earlier this year, top-tier adult company Naughty America provided VR demos at the Consumer Electronic Show and South by Southwest, however E3 was the first opportunity to really gauge how receptive gamers were. Why does that matter? Selling VR porn to consumers requires they already have a VR device, whether that is the Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear VR, HTC Vibe, or Google Cardboard. Gamers are more likely to already own one of these devices.

It is that sense of shame, ultimately, that Vrangalova hopes her project may help to address. As one respondent to a survey Vrangalova sent to users put it, “This has helped me feel okay about myself for wanting casual sex, and not feel ashamed or that what I do is wrong.” The psychologist James Pennebaker has found over several decades of work that writing about emotional experiences can act as an effective form of therapy, in a way that talking about those experiences may not. (I’m less convinced that there are benefits for those who use the site as a way to boast about their own experiences.) “Often there’s no outlet for that unless you’re starting your own blog,” Vrangalova points out. “I wanted to offer a space for people to share.”
Any project that helps people feel less shame is A-Okay by me.
