The high IQ society Mensa has tapped Kelly Shibari to coordinate the inaugural adult industry track for this year’s annual Mensa gathering. Shibari, CEO of ThePRSMGroup.com, will be moderating two panels on Saturday at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in San Diego.
“I’m so honored to be asked to coordinate the adult industry track for this year’s annual gathering,” Shibari said. “Bringing the industry to such a highly esteemed group of people, who are just as curious about the world and its many different and interesting facets as I am, should make the two panels lively and fun for all who attend.”
The panels that Shibari will be moderating on Saturday are “Porn Performers and Parenting” and “State of the Adult Entertainment Industry.” While the “Porn Performers and Parenting” panel will feature Jeanne Silver and her daughter and Howie Gordon and his daughter, the “State of the Adult Entertainment Industry” panel will feature Aiden Starr, Ela Darling, Mark Kernes and XBIZ President and Publisher Alec Helmy.

Luxury sex-toy manufacturer LELO wanted to reinvent the condom. But by makingCharlie Sheen their pitchman, they could end up tanking their own reputation instead.
Once beloved by feminist sex workers, bloggers, and educators for its sleek vibrator designs, the Swedish adult toymaker is now courting controversy by using a man with a long history of violence against women—both alleged and admitted—to sell condoms. It’s a criticism that the company saw coming and tried to deflect in advance.
“We know Charlie may be a divisive choice for many but it’s also a bold one, and in the fight against STIs we need to make an impact,” LELO wrote on the IndieGoGo page for the “reengineered” HEX condoms, which have honeycomb-structured shafts.
People are not happy about this. Longtime fans and supports of Lelo have decided to boycott the company.
Don’t get me wrong—erotic fiction can be hot. Research has shown that women do get turned on by sexually dominant men, including those who tie them up, spank them, and make them submit. Perhaps nothing has proved this more than the commercial success of the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise.
Unfortunately, most popular erotic fiction only features that one dynamic: Dominant male, submissive female. So that’s what we’re exposed to—which is a problem. According to social cognitive theory, the media we consume helps shape our world view, so exposure to just one type of sexual dominance can backfire. In fact, studies have shown books like Fifty Shades increase endorsement of sexism—and contribute to the acceptance of rape myths.
I can’t tell you how many romance novels I read a as a tween. There wasn’t much else to read at my local library at the time. I would not have minded reading a book with a dominate woman.
