New app logs mutual consent to sex (USA Today)
A mother of three aims to both break the tension and confirm mutual consent before sexual intercourse via Yes to Sex, an app out Friday for both iOS and Android.
In less than 25 seconds, partners can whip out a smartphone, fire up the app and flash through a series of one-touch agreements that culminate in a request to record a short audio confirmation that the parties have agreed to intercourse. A safe word is generated. Both parties agree to stop having sex if one partner says the word.
Any tool that helps people learn about consent is pretty great. I just wouldn’t want to be in a situation where the person I’m with chooses the option “I’d rather fuck a Fleshlight filled with broken glass.”
I don’t think the Peepz behind the app worded it quite that way, but still… AWKWARD.
The government has voiced concern that more young people are trying anal sex – as part of a push to regulate pornography.
The UK’s Department for Culture, Media & Sport, overseen by Culture Secretary John Whittingdale, is currently consulting on proposals to make age verification mandatory for online pornography.
The consultation document lists a number of alleged harms that have been linked to over-exposure to pornography – and one is quite surprising.
It’s anal. Anal is the surprising thing. People are afraid that the rise in anal sex is due to the prevalence of anal in porn, so they think banning said act in pornography will keep the sex having people from the perils of anal sex. Clearly, this is just one giant step back to the days when sodomy was illegal and censorship was prevalent.
In the absence of strong evidence of harm, the document instead suggests that porn is causing more people to try anal sex, and labels such sex as ‘unwanted,” Barnett said.
“There is also a question about the effect of pornography on ‘unwanted sex’ — for instance more young people are engaging in anal intercourse than ever before despite research that suggests that it is often not seen as a pleasurable activity for young women.”
Barnett, who noted that sodomy laws in the U.K. were scrapped half a century ago, said the term “unwanted sex” is odd — implying a gray area between consensual and nonconsensual sexual activity.
“The suggestion that it is somehow government’s role to prevent anal sex happening is surreal in the extreme,” he said. “We call on [the Department of Culture Media and Sport] to halt the consultation pending a review of the evidence, but we fear that a new and dangerous law to further censor Internet content will appear in the coming Queen’s Speech.”
This is nuts, just nuts. Long live fear and bigotry! Not.
