I know that Christmas is technically a Christian holiday, which makes the month of December mostly irritating for people of other faiths, but I come from a family where although my grand-parents were Christian my parents raised me without religion. I was never baptized, I never attended church, except for special occasions where I was accompanying a relative for the heck of it.
As an atheist I still love Christmas, because of the fairy tales, the stories, the myth, the presents and all the trimmings. I forget that it’s supposed to be about baby Jesus. As far as I’m concerned it’s a holiday celebrating magical elves who hang out with reindeer at the North Pole.
If I was Jewish or Buddhist, I’d still enjoy watching a TV show about a magical snowman. I think. Maybe this whole Christian thing is so subtly ingrained in my subconscious I don’t notice it and if I was raised in another family I would find the whole thing in poor taste. All I know is that I find that an advent calendar with only one Christmas song really sad. I call bah humbug on this ish.
