Sex News: Drugs & Sperm, Sex Shops In China, & BDSM Therapy

I asked two reproductive experts—Dr. Ricardo Yazigi of Shady Grove Fertility Center in Maryland and Dr. David Nudell, a Bay Area-based male reproductive urologist—plus Fernando Caudevilla (also known as Dr. X, the drug whisperer) to explain the way drug use can negatively impact sperm. The general consensus is that the use of just about every illicit drug causes damage to the testicles and prevents the creation of testosterone—the linchpin substance for the entire male reproductive system.

Well, duh. Drugs are bad. Drugs are bad for your sperm. If you want to have healthy babies don’t do drugs.

China produces 70 percent of the world’s sex toys, despite strong regional taboos surrounding sexuality, and its sex shops now outnumber Starbucks.

The coffee giant has more than 1,500 stores in China, but that’s small potatoes compared to the countless dispensers of condoms, vibrators and costumes. Taobao, the online retail giant operated by Alibaba Group in China, lists thousands of sex toy companies.

Sex-Shop

Most of the merch is exported to places like South Africa, South Korean, and Russia. Kind of ironic that there are so many sex shops in China considering the way the government there is prone to censorship when it comes to sex.

“Whether they are soldiers or victims,” Leslie Rogers explains, “there is nothing that binds people together better than war. What I’m re-creating in BDSM is like war—but in re-creating war, I’m ending it. I’m going to a place with you where I shouldn’t go, and we’ll meet there, and in the end we’ll realize that we are still capable of being loved.” […]

While conventional psychotherapists still debate the ethics of hugging their patients, Rogers and Thole have pioneered a form of intensive therapy that incorporates consensual BDSM activities into their sessions with clients. The objective is to activate repressed emotions in order to process them in a safe and supportive environment.

BDSM

Sounds good in theory, but I think I’ll stick to regular therapy for now.
